Marjorie Horne – Painting

Marjorie Spalding Horne is originally from Richmond, Indiana and presently lives in Knoxville, Tennessee. She earned the Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 1981. She has received several purchase awards and honors in regional and national exhibits. Among many competitions, her colored pencil work has been juried into four annual International Exhibitions of the Colored Pencil Society of America since 1998, earning her Signature Status in 2004. One of those pieces is included in The Best of Colored Pencil V, edited by the founder of CPSA, Vera Curnow. In 2006 she had a piece selected as one of the top 100 winners in the PaintAmerica Competition. Marjorie has presented one-woman exhibits in Oak Ridge, Tennessee; Roane State Community College, Harriman, Tennessee; Webb School of Knoxville, Tennessee; The College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio; and the TVUUC Gallery in Knoxville, Tennessee in 2001. Marjorie and her sister, Betty Hendrix have a show scheduled together for May 2007 at the Campbell House Gallery in Southern Pines, North Carolina. In Knoxville, Marjorie’s paintings are on display and available at the Art Market Gallery, 422 South Gay Street, where she was Featured Artist in March 2007.

Transparent and reflective surfaces, which are affected and enhanced by their environments, have been recurrent themes in Marjorie’s colored pencil drawings and watercolors. More recently she has included landscapes, nature studies, florals and figures in her work.

During her career Marjorie’s work in art has been balanced with the joys of raising a family and a full-time responsibility in accounting for a consulting firm. Always, art feeds her soul and brings wholeness to her life.
