Sylvia Caldwell – Jewelry

I was fortunate to be born and raised in the hills of East Tennessee, with the mists of the ancient Smoky Mountains swirling around me. It is a place that reminds me on a daily basis of the majesty of God’s presence in our lives. It is a joy to live one’s life surrounded by the magnificence of the mountains…the peacefulness of the rivers and lakes… the brilliant colors of the seasons…the profusion of flowers and plants…the chirping birds and frisky critters that run through my back yard…and the kind, gentle faces that surround and uplift me.

I discovered my jewelry-making skills late in life, after I retired from a 30-year business career. It was quite a shock to realize I had such a creative gift—a gift I consider to be directly from God. I took up jewelry-making as a hobby, but it has grown into much more than that for me. I view my art as a way to honor God. If you look closely, the influence of the scriptures is evident in my work.

I will extend peace to her like a river… Isa. 6:12

Stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God. Job 37:14

Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: and yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Matt. 6:28-29

Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains. Ps. 36:6

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven. Eccl. 3:1

Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. Ps. 36:5

I have always loved wearing artisan jewelry and working with my hands to create beautiful things. I enjoy continually learning new techniques that allow me to meet the challenge of fashioning the countless designs inspired by living in a place that clearly reflects the beauty of God’s abundant love. My artistic signature is blending a variety of jewelry-making techniques, such as off-loom bead weaving with precious metal clay (PMC), to create truly distinctive jewelry and gifts. Since I consider my jewelry-making talents to be a gift from God, I always donate fifty percent of my net profits to local charities out of thankfulness. You can find a sample of my jewelry at
