Best known for her sensitive, evocative watercolor portraits and vibrant use of color, Kate Aubrey's paintings include all genres from figure to landscape, her personal favorites being figure and florals. She took her first watercolor class in 1977 in Anchorage, Alaska, " get myself out of the house after my first husband died." Since then, Kate has studied with such notable artists as Charles Reid, Don Andrews, Lian Quan Zhen, Mike Bailey, Ted Nuttall, Jeannie McGuire, Stephen Quiller, and John Salminen.

Her paintings are informed by the different locales in which she has lived, including Colorado, Washington, and Nevada. She taught all levels of watercolor classes for a total of nine years at the Nevada Museum of Art and Reno’s community college system, where she earned the 2010 Continuing Education Teacher of the Year award. Afterward, she spent an invaluable three years living, painting and teaching on Cape Cod in Massachusetts before moving with her husband to their "forever home" outside of Knoxville, Tennessee in 2014. She now teaches intermediate and advanced level watercolor workshops in multiple states, including California, Nevada, Massachussetts and, of course, Tennessee.

Kate has won many awards since her first state fair blue ribbon, including Third Place in the Northwest Watercolor Society 78th and 79th Annual International Open Exhibitions, the Silver Award at the California Watercolor Association’s 48th Annual Juried Exhibition in 2018 , merchandise awards in the 2016 and 2017 Southern Watercolor Society Juried Exhibits, and the top Jerry’s Artarama Purchase Award in the 2016 Tennessee Watercolor Society Biennial Exhibition and multiple awards in the Oak Ridge Art Center’s Annual Juried Show since 2014. Her watercolor, “Invisible”, earned her a place on the Finalist roster printed in “The Artists Magazine” for their 2014 “Over 60 Competition”, and her painting, “From the Heart” has been accepted for publication in “Splash 21 - Capturing Mood”. She is a signature member of the Northwest Watercolor Society and of the Southern Watercolor Society.

Her work can be found in corporate and private collections throughout the US. She is also a juried member and past Vice President of the Knoxville Watercolor Society, a Master Artist of the Cape Cod Art Center, and a member of the National Watercolor Society, Tennessee Watercolor Society, and the Artists Guild of Tellico Village in Tennessee.
