Leonard Cohen was a Canadian singer-songwriter, poet and novelist. His work explored religion, politics, isolation, sexuality and personal relationships. The title of the artwork pays tribute to the popular line in his song Anthem. The full line is “There is a crack in everything. That is how the light gets in”. I chose to paint Leonard in primary colors because he was such an irreplaceable cornerstone in music history. No other colors can be mixed to create primary colors. They are the basis for every color we see. Red and blue symbolize his passion and devotion to his craft. I used yellow to illustrate the light coming in behind Cohen’s cracks. There will never be another artist similar to Cohen but there will always be those who carry a little of his color with them. Anthem is available at www.etsy.com/shop/klockmillerart
