Outback

In the 1800s, and early 1900s a lot of families did not have indoor plumbing in their homes.  An outhouse provided a place to go to the bathroom.  Outhouses had no running water, no heat in the winter, nor air-conditioning during the hot summer.  In some instances, the pages from the ol’ Sears & Roebuck catalog were used for toilet paper.  This pen and ink drawing is of an outhouse that was probably positioned not far from the backdoor of a home.
